Abstract:
In the focus of this presentation will be new stoichiometric and catalytic
organometallic oxidation reactions discovered recently in our group that are
mediated by Pd(II)/Pd(IV) or Pt(II)/Pt(IV) redox couples and utilize such
environmentally benign oxidants as O2or H2O2. An emphasis will be made on C‐H
functionalization reactions that lead to formation of new C(spn)‐X bonds (X = C, N,
O, Cl, Br, I; n = 2, 3). The key tool in our design and discovery of suitable metal
complexes are the ligands that allow one to tune reactivity of a metal center
toward both the organic substrate and O2(or H2O2). Our design of the metal
complexes is based on in‐depth understanding of the underlying organometallic
reaction mechanisms. Both experimental and computational (DFT) approaches
are used to this end.
